NSCW Long-term Goals

Long-term Goals (3-4 years) of the Signature Program:

  1. Reduced incidence of cyano bacteria and resulting toxin in Lake Erie waters, especially the western basin
  2. Reduced loading of Phosphorus in accordance with the Phosphorus Task Force goals
  3. Utilization of adaptive management to improve nutrient utilization and manage nutrients as a system to increase economic returns and reduce water quality impacts by farmers and the agriculture industry
  4. All producers will be offered and those who apply commercial fertilizer on 50 acres or more will be required to receive educational training in the following areas:
    1. Current state of Ohio’s waterways
    2. Soils and soil testing
    3. Best Management Practices for Phosphorous
    4. Best Management Practices of Nitrogen
