Chris’s Extension efforts involve helping to develop educational programs and resources for specialty crop growers in northwest Ohio, with a focus on commercial vegetable production. The objective of providing these Extension resources and opportunities is to share the extensive scientific/technical knowledge and connections of The Ohio State University with produce growers to help them achieve enhanced environmental, economic and prosocial outcomes. By providing useful, accessible educational materials and opportunities for knowledge exchange, the Fruit and Vegetable team at OSU Extension aims to support specialty crop growers in improving their production systems and overall well-being. Chris is jointly appointed with Michigan State University Extension, serving commercial vegetable producers in southeast Michigan as well.
Chris grew up in northern Michigan on a family farm that raised livestock and field crops. He completed a Master's degree in horticulture at Michigan State University, conducting research on electrical weed control in carrot and green bean production. Chris has a background in weed management, soil biology, market gardening, and other areas of commercial vegetable production.
