Abstract: The loss of agricultural land and its conversion to housing development has been a concerning trend in Ohio and the Midwest in the last 20 years. This webinar will explore the recent rends from the U.S. Census of Agriculture on declining farmland and farm numbers. The presentation will also explore the conversion of agricultural land to development in the state of Ohio and examine trends by county, city, and Metropolitan Statistical Area. The key results show a loss of agricultural land of about 2% in the state of Ohio in the last 20 years, half of which is due to development. The conversion of agricultural land to development is stronger for counties in the Metropolitan Statistical Areas, and particularly around the city of Columbus.
